How do I know what swim meets OCSC will be attending?

The OCSC swim meet schedule is posted at the pool and is available on this website. All of the meets on this list are available to any OCSC swimmer unless specified differently. The A+ and state championship meets are available only to those swimmers who have qualifying times (also known as cuts).

How do I sign my child up for a swim meet?

At least 2 weeks prior to each swim meet, a sign-up sheet will be posted at the pool. Along with the sign-up sheet will be an order of events sheet that lists each event, along with an associated event number. The sign-up sheet will specify the maximum number of events allowed per swimmer (usually 4). You simply write your childs name, along with the associated event numbers that you wish your child to swim. You may sign up your child for any number of events up to the maximum.

How do I sign my child up for relay events?

You don't. The coach will create relay teams using swimmers who have signed up for individual events. You may no longer "opt-out" of a relay event due to a recent board policy update. For more info refer to the "Relay Q and A"

How does the coach decide which swimmers to place on a relay team?

There may be exceptions, but generally, the swimmers are chosen for relays based on their seed times. For example, for the girls 9-10 200 free relay, the four 9-10 year old girls with the fastest 50 free seed times will be chosen for the relay team. If there are nine or more girl swimmers aged 9-10 signed up for the meet, a second relay team will be created, using the swimmers with the 5th through 8th best seed times.

How much does it cost to attend a swim meet?

Costs vary, depending on the meet host. There is a set charge for each individual event and each relay event that your child signs up for. Events are generally $2 to $3 each. There is also an additional "splash" fee of $2.00 per swimmer that goes to Wisconsin Swimming. So, if your child swims 4 individual events and 2 relays, you can expect to pay anywhere from $14.00 to $20.00 for the meet. Event costs will be specified on the meet sign-up sheet.

How do I pay for swim meets?

The money for swim meets is paid out of your family's "swim fund". You must keep this fund current with enough money to cover all of your children's meet expenses. Swim fund checks must be made out to OCSC Swim Fund. Contact the OCSC Swim Fund Coordinator for further information about paying into your swim fund or to inquire about your current swim fund balance.

Do I still have to pay if my child misses a meet that I signed up for?

Yes! Once you sign up for a meet, you are responsible for paying all fees. In addition, if the absence of your child causes the cancellation of an OCSC relay event due to lack of 4 swimmers, you are responsible for paying the ENTIRE cost of the relay event (generally $10-$12).

If I don't fill out a meet reservation form, can my child still attend the meet?

In most cases, yes. The majority of swim meets do not reach capacity, so you will be able to sign your child up for the meet when the sign-up sheet is posted at the pool. For the meets that do fill up, your child will not be able to attend if reservations were not made.

top

Does it cost anything to make reservations?

No. There is no cost for making reservations. However, by filling out the form you are agreeing to pay all fees associated with the number of events that you reserve. These fees will be taken from your swim fund near the date of the meet. If your child does not attend the meet, you are still responsible for paying these fees.

Where do I find my swimmer's USA Membership number?

Each swimmer is assigned a USA Membership number when joining USA swimming. Each member of our team is a USA swimming member. Your swimmer's number is unique to your swimmer. It is: numeric birthday, first three letters of their firstname, their middle initial and first four letters of their last name.

For example, Amber Hiveley's USA number is 120467AMBLHIVE.

If you only have three digits in your last name, a * would take the place of that letter or if you have no middle initial.

Is there a place I can check my child's best times?

You can view all of your swimmer's previous times by going to http://www.usaswimming.org/USASWeb/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=358. This will direct you to a National Database which contains your swimmer's times based on their USA membership number.
